Welcome!
The best way out is always through. — Robert Frost
Informed by the latest psychological research, inspired by various wisdom traditions, and integrating mindfulness meditation practices, I work collaboratively with you to identify and resolve the reactive emotional patterns that interfere with your ability to create and enjoy a life of peaceful, loving, and fulfilling relationships – including the relationship you have with yourself.
My counseling orientation is best described as mindfulness-based and strengths- and solutions-focused. There is no question that our past experiences contribute to our present circumstances; however, I believe that we step into our best selves when we choose to be personally responsible for who we are now. Therefore, our sessions together will focus primarily on what is and what’s not presently working in your life and relationships. We will explore possible solutions and choose those that are most effective and meaningful for you. We will set goals, follow a plan, and track our progress on a regular basis. Your needs and concerns will direct our efforts throughout the treatment process.
I am a proponent of contemplative activities, such as meditation and prayer, to calm the mind and to gain greater peace and self-awareness. Mindfulness practices teach us to slow down and pay attention to what we are experiencing in any given moment. Just learning to pause and take three conscious breaths before we act can result in greater equanimity, clarity, and compassion for ourselves and for others. As a result, mindfulness activities will nearly always be a component of our work together.
If you are presently challenged by stressful emotions and experiences in your life and in your relationships, I encourage you to call for an appointment. Counseling provides an excellent opportunity to give yourself the gift of wellness. We all need the support of others to learn, grow, and thrive; I welcome the opportunity to be that support for you.
